Custom Rooflines Are A Different Kind Of Work
The village pulled together several unincorporated horse-country townships, and the housing reflects that history. Large custom homes on one to five acre parcels, many built in the eighties, nineties and 2000s by different builders to different plans, plus older farmhouses and horse properties that predate all of it. Almost nothing here is repeated street to street, which means almost nothing here is a simple roof.
What we see on these houses is roof geometry: multiple intersecting gables, dormers, turrets, long valleys, roof-to-wall transitions where a two-story section meets a one-story wing, and cricket details behind wide chimneys. Every one of those is a place water has to be steered rather than simply shed. On a plain gable ranch you can install a roof adequately by covering the field correctly. Out here the field is the easy part and the metal work in the valleys and transitions is what decides whether the roof performs.
That is also where cheap work hides. A crew that runs closed-cut valleys sloppily, skips the cricket behind a chimney or steps flashing wrong at a wing junction can hand over a roof that looks perfect from the driveway and leaks the first time a driving rain comes from the wrong direction. Oak Canopy Is Beautiful And Rough On Roofs
Campton Hills is genuinely wooded, and the mature oaks that make the properties handsome also drop on them relentlessly. Leaf and acorn load fills valleys and gutters faster than most homeowners expect, and organic debris sitting in a valley holds moisture against the shingle mat for weeks after a rain. That is how a valley fails years before the rest of the roof does.
Shade compounds it. North slopes under heavy canopy stay damp, which invites moss and algae growth and keeps the surface cold enough that winter melt refreezes there instead of draining. Limbs overhanging a roof abrade granules every time the wind moves them, and any tree close enough to touch is a branch strike waiting for the right storm. It bruises the shingle mat and strips granules without opening a hole, so a roof reads fine from the ground while the exposed asphalt bakes brittle through summer and lets go at the first hard freeze. Get any roof out here walked within two weeks of a hail or high-wind event, keep the photographs whether or not you file, and never sign with a door-knocker carrying out-of-state plates before somebody local has been on the roof.

Would metal make sense on my house instead of shingle?
Sometimes, and more often on porch roofs, accent sections and outbuildings than on an entire large custom home. Metal is excellent where slopes are low, shedding matters or a section is hard to reach again. We will lay out what makes sense where instead of pushing one system across the whole property.
Oak debris packs my valleys and gutters constantly. What helps?
Bigger gutters, more downspouts and a guard system chosen for leaf and acorn load rather than the cheapest screen. On the roof itself, open metal valleys shed debris far better than closed-cut valleys under heavy canopy. We spec wooded properties differently for exactly this reason.
A limb came down on the roof. Where do I start?
Call and we will get the opening covered so nothing else gets in. Then we photograph the damage properly, tell you honestly whether it clears your deductible, and handle the claim documentation if it does. If it does not, you get a repair price and no claim on your record.
Will you look at the barn while you are out here?
