The Cal-Sag Channel cuts along the north edge of Palos Heights, and the land rises off it into the moraine that gives the whole Palos area its hills and ravines. That elevation does two things to a roof. It puts you higher in the wind, especially on the lots facing the channel and the forest preserve, and it means your property drains fast and steep, so anything your gutters dump goes somewhere in a hurry. The housing came in waves.
