Worth Is Practically Our Backyard, And We Roof It Like It
Our shop sits in Alsip a few minutes east of the Cal-Sag bridge, which makes Worth close enough that our trucks pass through it on the way to half the jobs on the board. Between 111th Street and Harlem Avenue you have block after block of postwar ranches and bungalows, most of them on their second or third roof, and we have been working them since 2013.

Continuous ridge vent, cut and capped
The Ranch Roof Everybody Here Owns
Worth was built out fast in the 50s and 60s, and the result is a village full of long, low, simple gable roofs. That is good news: a straightforward ranch is the least expensive roof in our whole service area to replace properly, because there is little cutting, few valleys and easy walking. The bad news is that simple roofs got simple ventilation. Most of these houses came with a couple of box vents and a gable louver at each end, which was the standard then and is not close to enough now that attics are insulated heavier than they were.
Undervented attics cook shingles from underneath. A roof rated for thirty years gives you twenty when the deck runs twenty degrees hotter than it should every July, and in January the same trapped heat melts snow that refreezes at the eave. That is why a continuous ridge vent with real soffit intake is standard on the tear-offs we do here rather than an upcharge somebody has to talk you into. Cut the ridge, open the intake, let the roof breathe.
Ice At The Eave And What Actually Stops It
Worth homeowners call about ice more than almost anything else in a hard winter. Ranch roofs have long, shallow slopes, which means meltwater travels a long way at a low speed before it reaches the cold overhang, and that is a recipe for a dam. We fix it in three places: ventilation so the deck stays cold, insulation and air sealing so heat stops rising into the attic in the first place, and ice and water shield running well past the interior wall line so the water that does back up has nowhere to get in. Heat cable is a last resort, not a plan.
What We Get Called For Around Worth
- Shingle roof replacement on 50s and 60s ranches, full tear-off with ridge venting built into the job.
- Shingle roof repair after wind takes a stripe of tabs off a long exposed slope.
- Gutter replacement where years of ice load pulled hangers loose and killed the pitch.
- Metal roof repair on the garages, sheds and small shops along the 111th Street and Harlem commercial strips.
- Hail damage repair with adjuster-ready photo documentation when a cell drops on the village.
The Water Table And The Cal-Sag
Worth sits right along the Cal-Sag channel, and the land in that corridor is low and flat. Rain here has to be moved away deliberately, because it will not run off on its own. We size gutters and downspouts for the actual roof area rather than replacing whatever was there, and we care where the water lands. A downspout discharging next to the block on a lot with no slope is a basement problem waiting for the next three-inch rain. Getting that right is often the cheapest improvement a Worth homeowner can make to their house.
The Commercial Strip
The businesses along Harlem and 111th are mostly small buildings with low-slope roofs, and they get the same treatment as the houses. Ponding, failed lap seams, sun-baked older membrane and rooftop unit curbs that have been sealed by three different guys are the usual findings. We handle flat roof repair and full replacement on those buildings, and larger properties can get a written condition report through our commercial roof inspection service before a budget cycle rather than after a leak.
The Bungalows And The Dormers Somebody Added
Mixed in among the ranches are the brick bungalows and story-and-a-half Capes, and those come with a wrinkle the ranches do not have. Most of them had the upstairs finished at some point, either by the original builder or by a homeowner in the seventies with a circular saw and a weekend. That means a shed dormer or two hanging off the rear slope, knee walls closing off the sides, and an attic that is no longer one open space where air can move freely.
Where those dormers meet the main roof is our most common leak call on this housing type in Worth. The sidewall flashing gets tucked behind siding that was installed after the fact, or it was never stepped at all and has been relying on sealant since the Nixon administration. We rebuild those junctions during a tear-off, and we vent the pockets on either side of the knee walls so the finished space upstairs stops cooking in July and stops feeding an ice dam in January. It is a bigger job than a plain ranch roof, so we walk it before we quote it rather than pricing off the footprint alone.
Getting In And Out In A Day
Most Worth ranch roofs are a one-day job, and we run them that way on purpose. Trucks arrive early, the tear-off is done by mid-morning, dry-in goes on before lunch and shingles run the afternoon. Nothing sits open overnight, your driveway is yours again by dinner, and we sweep for nails twice before we pull off the block. Living this close means we can start earlier here than we can anywhere else on the map, which is most of the reason a Worth job wraps in a single day when the same roof twenty miles out would stretch into a second one.
Close Enough To Come Back
Angelo Ristich learned this trade from his father Frank and still supervises jobs personally, which is easy in a village this close to the shop. Being minutes away has practical effects: we can price a roof off satellite measurements the day you call, we can swing back two days after a job because you noticed something, and an emergency patch call in Worth does not wait behind a job across the metro.
We are A+ rated with the BBB, carry a HomeAdvisor Elite Service award, and stay licensed and insured in Illinois. If financing helps a project happen we walk you through pre-approval. Recent work sits in the gallery, photographed the day we finished, and the contact page gets you a same-business-day callback.

Metal roof on a ranch home
Worth At A Glance
Minutes down Harlem from the Alsip shop. Postwar ranches and bungalows, plus small commercial along 111th Street.
Mon to Sat, 9 to 5, with emergency patch response when storms come through.
(312) 590-4853Around The Corner From Here
Worth borders most of our busiest towns in Cook County. Chicago Ridge is directly north with the same hail history, Oak Lawn is a few minutes east, and Burbank, Bridgeview and Justice all sit within a short run up Harlem and Roberts Road. Because these villages are packed this tightly, one storm cell usually hits four of them, and we end up working the whole cluster in the same stretch of days with the same crew and materials. The full map is on the service areas page.
Worth Roofing Questions
My ranch only has a couple of box vents. Is that a problem?
For most 50s and 60s houses here, yes. Those vents were sized for lighter attic insulation and a different climate expectation. We calculate intake and exhaust for your actual attic square footage and usually end up with a continuous ridge vent plus opened soffit intake, which keeps the deck cooler in summer and colder in winter.
Can I just have the worst slope done instead of the whole roof?
Sometimes. If the other slopes have real life left and the shingle can be matched closely enough, a single-slope job saves money. What we will not do is sell you one slope on a roof that is failing everywhere, because you would be paying twice inside three years. We tell you which situation you are in.
How much does a simple ranch roof cost around here?
A straightforward Worth ranch is on the lower end of what we quote, because the layout is simple and the walking is easy. The real variables are square footage, how many layers come off, whether decking needs replacing and what venting is added. We measure by satellite, give you a straight price, and show you the numbers it came from.
Do you do the garage roof at the same time?
Yes, and it is worth doing together. Detached garages here are usually a small percentage of the total job when the crew and dumpster are already on site, and doing both at once means one warranty and matching shingles instead of two different roofs on the same lot.
My shed and my shop have metal roofs. Do you work on those?
We do. Fastener washers going hard, open end laps and bad transitions where somebody added a canopy are the usual failures on small metal buildings around 111th and Harlem. New fasteners, butyl at the laps and correct flashing at the transitions handle most of it without a replacement.
Do you charge to come look?
No. We look at the roof, take photos, and give you a straight price with the options laid out. If the honest answer is that your roof has five good years left, we say that and you owe us nothing. Repeat customers and referrals are worth more to us than one oversold tear-off.
We Are Already Driving Past Your Block
